Brouwerij Anglo Belge
Brouwerij Anglo Belge was founded in 1891 by Alfred Versele and Ernest Martens. The brewery was later headed by the descendants including writer Gaston Martens. Expansion came through taking over other breweries like the Brouwerij van Veltem from Leuven, Brouwerij Le Progrès from Lummen and Brouwerij Christiaens from Koekelare.
During the best years Brouwerij Anglo Belge employed 300 people. Beers were sold under the names Anglo-Pils, Oud-Bruin and Rossbrau. In 1979 the brewery is taken over by the French group BSN which was also owner of the Brouwerij Kronenbourg and Alken Brouwerijen and was closed down in 1989.
The most know beer that is still brewed is Zulte which is now brewed by Alken-Maes Brouwerijen.
